Karen is a Faculty Teaching & Learning Specialist working with faculty across Ga Tech on all things related to teaching. For her, teaching is a passion so having the opportunity to work with faculty from various fields feeds into her own passion for teaching. When she works with faculty, she also learns from them -- which always evokes wonder in her for her own field of Learning Science.
She has worked in training and development for over 20 years – in private industry, K12, Extension, and higher education – so it was a natural fit for her to move into faculty development. She really enjoys helping faculty to (re)imagine their courses & assessments through an inclusive teaching lens. She focuses on innovative pedagogies & alternative assessments, as well as online education best practices. She likes to work with student-centered practices & focus on a pedagogy of kindness. In addition, she has experience with International Virtual Exchange (IVE).
Some of her current projects are:
- Students as Partners (SaP) program at Ga Tech (currently in the needs assessment phase)
- Book Club for Inclusive Teaching (Launching Fall 2023)
- Working with the Research Faculty Teaching Fellows and the Class of 1969 Teaching Fellows
- Working with the Provost Teaching and Learning Fellows
- Leading the Spring Faculty Teaching and Learning Forum
